  • Jake Altena Rites Held Saturday.
    Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church here at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4 for Jake Altena, 63, retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Sioux Center community, who passed away at the Sioux Center community hospital Thursday morning.
    Services were conducted by the Rev. Louis Tamminga and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral Home.
    Mr. Altena was born at Maurice, Iowa, November 11, 1903. He was married to Sadie DeVries on February 18, 1925. They resided on a farm until moving into Sioux Center about 10 years ago.
    Surviving him besides his wife are four sons, Sentner James of Hull, Aubrey Ronald of Sioux Center, Elroy Julius of Hull, Leroy Fredrick of Maurice; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Henry of Rock Valley and Sam of Sioux Center; three sisters, Johanna (Mrs. Albert In't Velt) of Worthington, Minn., Susie (Mrs. Art Klein) of Sioux Center, Fannie (Mrs. Tony DeBoom) of Maurice.
    Two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
    Mr. Altena had served as an elder in Bethel Christian Reformed church.
    Pallbearers were Dave Altena, Senard Altena, Sam Klein, Conrad De Boom, John Bruxvoort and Gerald Juffer.
